Use case: GST and PST

GST and PST applied by province, on every invoice

Work in more than one province and the tax on each invoice depends on where the job was done. Dispatch applies the rates for the job's province, handles tax-exempt clients, and shows GST and PST line by line.

Tax from a sticky note

The office keeps a note with the rates for each province. Every invoice means checking where the job was, which rate applies, whether the client is exempt, and whether the line is taxable at all. One wrong cell in the spreadsheet and the invoice is off.

Then a rate changes, and the sticky note doesn't.

How Dispatch handles it

  • Rates by province

Tax follows the province where the job was done, and falls back to your company's province when none is set.

  • Taxable or not, per item

Mark which catalog items are taxable. Lines that aren't taxable stay tax-free on every invoice.

  • Tax-exempt clients

Mark a client as tax-exempt and record their exemption number. It applies on their tickets and invoices automatically.

  • Locked on the invoice

Dispatch takes a snapshot of the tax when the invoice is created, so a later rate change never rewrites an old invoice.

  • GST and PST, line by line

The invoice PDF shows GST and PST for each line, with your registration numbers for that province.

  • One province per invoice

Jobs from different provinces go on separate invoices, so each one carries the right tax.

Fair questions.

Does Dispatch tell me what to charge tax on?

No. Dispatch applies the rates and settings you choose. Questions about what is taxable belong with your accountant.

Who keeps the tax rates up to date?

The Dispatch team maintains the GST and PST rates for each province, with the date each rate takes effect.

What happens to old invoices when a rate changes?

Nothing. Each invoice keeps the tax it was created with.

Can I bill a job in another province?

Yes. Set the province on the ticket and the invoice uses that province's rates.

How do tax-exempt clients work?

Mark the client as tax-exempt and add their exemption number. Their invoices are calculated without tax, and the exemption number is kept on record with each invoice.
